Why

Your text says agricola bonus. A Roman mistake, since agricola ends in -a?

No mistake. Agricola is a man, so the adjective is in the masculine form: bonus. In Latin an adjective agrees with its noun in case, number and gender.

That helps you translate too. In a long sentence you know which adjective belongs to which word, even when they stand far apart: Magnam puella rosam videt. Magnam and rosam go together: the girl sees the big rose.
