Present tense: who does what, now?
A Latin verb says by itself who does it. The ending -ō, -s, -t, -mus, -tis, -nt replaces I, you, he, we, you all, they. Four conjugations and esse.
You can start here straight away: you need nothing before this.
Why
A Latin text says only Vocāmus. No we, no names. So who is calling?
In Latin you need no separate little word for I or we. The end of the verb already says it: vocāmus, we call. A Roman only wrote the subject when it was needed or important.
That is why the verb is often the key to the sentence. If you know the personal endings, you know at once who acts, even in a one-word sentence. And with the same endings you will later build the other tenses.
